Charles Browning Late Fall Art Workshops 2024



Come immerse yourself in the pleasure of painting! All levels of experience, ages 16 and up, are welcome at any workshop. I can work with you whatever your skill level or experience. Charles Browning is an established artist who has shown in New York and nationally. He has taught at NYU, Bucks County Community College, and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.


Workshops take place at the Haycock Township Community Center, 1014 Old Bethlehem Road, Quakertown [Applebachsville]. The workshops will run with a 3 student minimum except as noted. Payment for workshops is by cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal on the first day of the workshop. All workshops may serve as open work sessions for returning students, by series or for $35 per session. The Figure workshop requires advance registration and payment by 11/2. Students supply their own materials. A suggested materials list will be sent prior to the workshops.

Color Magic

8 weeks, Tuesdays, 10/29-12/17, 10:30am-1:00pm

$250/series      Oils or Acrylics

Explore the magic of color! Practice color mixing, learn color relationships, and understand color and light. We'll begin with color mixing exercises and move into still life painting that explores color, temperature and saturation, to develop light source and volume.


All levels Intro to Painting

8 weeks, Tuesdays, 10/29-12/17, 3:00pm-5:30pm

$250/series      Oils or Acrylics

The perfect class for the new or returning painter. Working from observation, learn how to break down a still life into simple steps. Then we will explore color, paint mixing, and brushwork. Critique and technical advice for experienced painters as well.

                                                  

Christmas Portraits – people or pets

8 weeks, Tuesdays, 10/29-12/17, 6:00-8:30pm          

$250/series      Oils or Acrylics

Why not paint a portrait for Christmas? Paint a loved one, human or otherwise, for yourself or as a gift. Painting transforms the photographic subject into a new visual expression through color and brushwork. This session is also available as open time for returning students to work on personal projects.


Figure Painting!

Two Saturdays, 11/9, 11/16, 1-5pm

$80/series + $40 model fee = total $120

$50/one day + $20 model fee = total $70

4 student minimum, advance registration and payment required

Painting the human body from observation is part of the great classical tradition of study in the arts. This class will focus on a single pose over two Saturdays. Along the way we will touch on how mark-making can contribute energy, as well as on light source, color, and volume. The model will be lightly clothed. Students may also draw if they prefer.
